Over the past five years I have built up a reasonably successful career as an independent consultant in macroeconomic modeling of developing countries, with occasional diversions into IT.

Macroeconomic Modeling

Integrated Social Development Center (ISODEC), Accra, Ghana, 2001 - June 2005

  • Conceptualized and led the Distributional Effects of Economic Policies (DEEP) economic analysis project
  • Supervised and trained 2 staff in economic analysis
  • Designed and conducted a two-week intensive training in economic policy analysis for 20 staff
  • Designed and conducted several one- and two-day workshops on the project
  • Presented the project at meetings in Accra, London, and Washington, DC

Center for Economic Policy Research, Washington, DC, March 2005

  • Updated earlier work on comparative analysis of different countries' human development indicators time series using fresh data from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund

IT Consultancies

Data Mining Consultant, music.com, 2003 - Spring 2005

  • Defined database algorithm needs of music.com, in discussion with the company's CIO and a consultant colleague
  • Designed efficient SQL algorithms to predict a given customer's preferences based on all customers' expressed tastes
  • Implemented nearest neighbor and market basket analysis techniques in PL/pgSQL with Java wrapper
  • Optimized the algorithms' performance on large datasets
